Vile, Your garage is exactly what I had in mind when I said I wanted to build a dream garage.  I've been wondering for a while how your home shop was set up, that's what I need.
The house I'm looking at has a 25' x 36' 3 car garage.  The doors are 7' high,  2 of my trucks have 6" lifts with 35's, so they will fit (barely).  This garage is fine for the daily drivers, but I'm looking to put a garage out behind the house for the projects.  The house is on 6 acres. Hopefully I can meet with the town zoning department this week and see what my options are.

Fitz, what town are you in? I had to apply for a variance and go before the board to request permission to exceed the town's limits. They asked the dumbest questions but I brought a pretty girl with me and I knew they wouldn't give me a hard time if she just smiled at them and batted her eyes. If I had a do over, I would do a barn style garage, open floor with a bay door on each end. I'd put in 3 lifts, motorcycle lift and a paint booth, loft upstairs with an elevator and of course plumbing. Instead of hot air, I would do radiant in the floor, hot water, bathroom and maybe even a kitchen/bar. Make sure you have WiFi, a projector and an 80" screen with cable TV too.

When I was in Maine my drive was just over a mile...horrible! I need a drive to wind down on before I get to whatever is going on at home and when you add the garage issue into it everything was down hill. I hat3 carports with a passion!!! Even worse then that are 1,2 or 3rd row beach homes horrible. The new drive will be only 10 miles but that's the shortest route. I can easily make it 15 to 30 with a few turns and best of all no ridiculous traffic not to mention the first garage that will actually fit the whole truck in with the door shut and keep, bike and tools... The m so excited! Now if I can just find a way to get on Vile's level I'd be a happy camper.

I'm looking in Middleboro.  This part of town has what I consider "snob" zoning requirements. Its a two acre lot  minimum with some odd restrictions such as all buses, tractor trailers, and motorcycles must be parked in a garage.  This 3 car garage isn't big enough for a bus or TT unit (not that I have one), so hopefully the zoning board will let me go bigger.

Middleboro? Still a little snobish, my office used to be in northboro, all snobs.  I'm out near sturbridge, not too bad here, small towns.

From the bedroom.

You guys are too funny. When you spend as much time as I do in the garage, you need to have your amenities. Keep in mind I now have 2 daughters, I'm preparing for my sanity in my sanctuary.

Fitz, find out if they have separate rules for a "barn" you may be able to get away with a lot more.

6 hour commute.  An hour drive, two airplanes & 2 bus rides each way.  Only do a round trip every four weeks.  I.e. A 2 on/off schedule.
