Tci controller for 4l80e
« on: February 03, 2016, 09:29:03 pm »
Hello everyone, I just picked this truck up a few weeks ago and I'm trying to still figure out some of the things that have been done to it, let alone what needs to be done to it. I have this tci module bolted to the firewall and I don't know what model it is or what all I can adjust with it, my engine is. 6.5 td out of a 92 or 93 hummer supposedly, it is all mechanical and then the trans is a 4l80e it shifts funky and goes into overdrive way to soon, but the shifts are solid. I just want more info on this module and to find out if I can adjust how the kickdown operates as well as adjust the shift points

Can't help with shifting or controller, but that engine is 1997 or newer GMC/Chevy F-code(emission exempt)

One can tell because of the side mount turbo, the dual thermostat housing, and the relatively flat intake

But someone did convert from the DS4 electric pump to the DB2 mecanical

With the Model # and probably the Serial # you can likely get copies of the documentation from TCI.

The harmonic balancer that I had to use was the earlier model though from a 92 or 93

Well hard to know then, thermostat and front lift point indicates 97 and later.

And because of that, it is hard to say just swap tranny controllers, the early 4l80 used different voltages for shift solenoids, think up to 94.

im not 100% familuar with these 6.5s had a 96 that we were trying to get running but in 94 they switched to a electronic throttle DS-4 injection pump till 2000. that looks like it has a throttle cable indicating 92-93 manual pump. now you can swap pumps around so besides that im useless

I'll do some looking around to find engine numbers on the block so I at least know that much, but who know what the trans is from as far as what year :/ dang truck broke down on me today for a second time with water in fuel issue, just put a new tank in it and fresh fuel, even an additive just in case and it still left me stranded, waiting on a tow truck as we speak

If you stopped driving because the water in fuel sender lit the dash lamp you've been had.  The sensors in the Stanadyne 80 box filter base are less than reliable.
You have a late 90's 6.5L Turbodiesel engine.  I'd ask the PO what happened to the much better 6.5l top loading Stanadyne filter manager that was mounted on the back of the intake valley?

I didn't stop driving It died, second time now, there was an extra 3rd tank added at some point for the biodiesel setup which doesn't have a cap on it, and is supposedly turned off, I'm thinking about removing all the extra junk and plumb the passenger side tank directly to the fuel pump and eliminate any possibility of bad fuel getting in from either the driver side tank which leaks or the biodiesel tank that is open to the atmosphere

is that what the two "pumps"? are for in the intake, been trying to figure those things out.

air in the injection system is really hard to diagnose, but if you run a clear line(like tygon) in the return to the pump(should be easy to find, top of injection pump short 3-4 inch hose) any major bubbles you have air, and you need to find the leak

is it mechanical lift pump or electric?(fuel pump)

It's an electric lift pump but I feel it is weak and plan on replacing, although I recall reading that I shouldn't get one over a certain psi, don't recall the number though, I think 15 psi max but like I said, I don't really remember

could you be sucking air from somewhere?
