1978 C10 Paint question

Hi I have a question that may seem really basic to you guys but your input is very appreciated.
I have a 1978 C10 that I am starting to do some body work on to get rid of the rust. I have a set of fenders that I would like to put on but they are only in primer right now. I was wondering if I can put them on the pickup in primer and if they would be alright left like that to drive if it gets painted at a later date. Like I said any input is appreciated. Thanks

I'm not a painter, but I think worst case scenario you would sand them and re-prime.

Primer will not protect them from corrosion.

A couple coats of an epoxy primer will give you a longer window to overcoat but won't last forever

You can, but most primers will absorb moisture to some degree. Some types more than others. Epoxy primer will hold up the best.
Are you planning on painting the inside of the fenders? If yes I would suggest painting them. Later when the truck gets painted they can be sanded, and resprayed then.

I've have 1 1/2 yr. on China parts w/there primer. No salt, but they definitely need attention now. Just a little heads up.

Thanks guys for your input. I am planning on painting the inside of the fenders so like one of you said I may as well paint the whole thing flat black life the inside and just sand it when it comes time for professional paint
