Holley Sniper Fuel System Setup

I would like to know too. I just bought a 78 burb. I want to do it because of the ethanol gas. these days carbs don’t like it very well specially if they sit. On any of my classics I like to pull the tank and coat them so ethanol doesn’t eat them up and you don’t have to worry about a piece of rust clogging up and starving your motor specially if they have sat for awhile before you bought it.

I personally would run hydramat in the bottom of it.

Question. I’m replacing the tank for my 86. It has an ls swap.

So I prematurely ordered a new poly tank.

I’m going to order an 87 pickup. And do the ep381 pump.

Now I’m regretting getting the poly tank because it has no baffles. If I do this hydra mat. What do I need to connect it to the pump. It seems the pump doesn’t have an inlet barb or something to Hook up to.

I always use that red cote that you get at oreillys, but he might be thinking por15 dues make a gas tank sealer too.

BlackTom C , any chance you can post up some images of where you mounted the fuel pump please? I am looking to do this same installation myself and some ideas on pump mounting would really help. Thanks.

Spendy solution. I would just do as the Captain says and use the EP381 fuel pump with the '87 sender. You have to either break off two little plastic tabs on the EP381 pump, or you can modify the steel base-plate on the sender that supports the pump, but it is really simple.

I put in the holley tank, original had a lot of rust. The efi is awesome, always a fast start! Lots of torque and horsepower on the dyno.  Tank seems to work fine, but I've not yet been in the road.

But thinking about the using an 87 and up sender and ep381, which appears to be a stock hi-pressure gm pump(?)  may be the simplest, easiest way.   Although, i would want either the hydramat or even put in my own baffles.

i'm getting more comfortable with the concept of installing an in-tank pump for applications where there is no aftermarket bolt in deal---like holley.   Or, even in situations where there ARE bolt in solutions.


So how do we make sure  we don't blow ourselves to the moon if we weld on the tank, or possibly even cutting/drilling on it?

Wouldn't the 87 and up TBI motors have baffles in the factory tank? Would the aftermarket replacement tanks come with these?

'87 and up factory and replacement tanks come with the baffles. The issue can be what year of truck are you replacing the tank on. I am sure someone will chime in with the correct information, but in the earlier years the tanks and fuel fills had a smaller diameter. At some point in the early 80s they went to a larger diameter fill. This may have been '79 when they went to the fuel door in Chevy. I think GMC may have been a little earlier? Not certain. Anyways...if you use a '87 tank on an earlier truck you may have smaller diameter fill on your fuel fill than on the tank. This could be fixed with a custom solution like an adapter to go from one size rubber hose to another or cutting and welding on your fuel fill, but wouldn't work with stock components. You are definitely going to do it cheaper than a Holley EFI tank, but it depends on how comfortable you are working on these systems and with making minor mods.
