Vent window handle

Regarding the little vent window handle, some catalogs have a locking and non-locking, mine is non-locking. Will a locking one work just the same, or do I have to go with the original non locking? Mine are all pitted and tarnished. Thanks..

I changed my 74 from non-locking to locking with no issues and they work just fine. The locking have a button on them that you have to push to open.

I'm sick of trying to go all original!! Too much trouble! I guess as long as it was offered by GM as an option, or even if its a  Chevy or GM product or aftermarket GM or Chevy "type" product, then that will be ok. I am hereby changing my position on pure factory original. From now on, i'm going "mostly all around stock looking".  (Edition added)

Oh,  btw...did any trucks come off the line with a locking vent handle? I guess it would be nice to have it lock for a tad bit more security.

You mean the push button lock? I don't think it was offered until 1980. It really makes no difference. If someone wants in that little button isn't stopping them.

Tucked up under dash, left side of steering column. Yeah, thats where it is.

Sure, i can never find old posts, but i think last summer i posted somewhere about it. Someone responded to cut the big purple wire under the steering column, sure enough that was it. So to lengthen it, obviously add in the correct guage wire, wire nut the two ends, then connect the two remaining ends in and out of the switch. Use a quality on/off simple toggle switch. You can hide wherever you want, of course you may need to add a good length of wire, depending. I would actually like to move mine somewhere under the glove box.

Generally they will just bust the tumbler and start it with a screwdriver in a few seconds,  But with the toggle in the off position, it wont start. But someone who has time and is not nervous, could look under there and see the switch. So hide all, even the wire nut.

Sure, there are other methods of course. I remember several were posted. But this is pretty basic. I'll see if i can find the pics from the original post.

I just tied a switch into my distributor hot wire.

I've heard of using a switch to send ignition power to horns when trying to start.
