I have never reamed cylinders before removing the pistons myself.  That is just me though.  I would think it would be hard to do the reaming with the pistons still in.

If there is a severe ridge yes ream it. If not don't bother.

If your pulling the crank and all with the block on a stand, why don't you just push em through the bottom of the cylinders?? Might be a dumb question, but who knows??

Jay is right.  push those bad boys down throught the bottom.  I have honed the bores to get rid of the top lip of the bores after the pistons have been removed.

If you are getting the block bored .30 over or .40 over of whatever, you dont' need to hone it.

Cover the connecting rod studs with pcs. of plastic hose or fuel line before lifting out the crank to avoid scratching the crank journals.

if your re-using the old crank, you can do an old hillbilly trick to see what kind of shape the journals are in. chances are you may have to get er turned or polished but check this anyways. Take an old penny and rub it across the bearing surfaces, small particles of copper will be left in the deep scratches. Don't worry about damaging the crank with the penny neither, coppers too soft to damage the steel or iron, whichever one you have.

If the rings have worn the cylinder significantly you may have to ream the top ridge in order to get the piston out. If there is much of a ridge the the rings will catch when you try to remove them.

If the rings catch, the bottom of a Blue Point ball pien hammer works well to knock the pistons out... also works on siezed pistons.

you cannot remove all the pistons from the crank side of the block...  If I remember correctly Only #1 and #8 can be removed this way...
