head numbers
« on: February 16, 2007, 12:32:00 am »
i recently bought a 350 to replace the 305 in my truck and i ran the head numbers and it appears they are 80-82 heads from a 267, should i try to find a set of 350 heads or would these work fine. The motor has flat top pistons and appears to have a cam, also a double roller timing chain and an edelbrock intake. I have not done anything to this motor i was plannin on just replacing the gaskets and oil seals, but if these heads are no good then i will try to find a new set.
the head number i read was 14014415

How did you obtain the engine??  Those heads are for a 267, and one site shows that they could have been placed on a 305 as well.

My two-cent guess is that the valves are smaller than a typical 350 head.  Whether you should pursue locating a true 350 head set is really dependant upon your budget.

Are you sure you bought a 350? It's odd that someone would put those heads on a 350

well i guess im more asking is there a major drawback in using those heads? Yes i ran the numbers on the engine and it is a 350, i bought the motor from a good friend of mine and it ran fine before, i just thought it was odd those heads were one there. would there be a noticable difference with the 350 heads. Im looking to have a truck reliable and decent on the speed, its also my daily driver.

Well it depends, if you want max power from your pumper those low flow heads are like you trying to run a marathon with a plastic bag over your head.
