Look what I ordered today!!

I was originally going to build an engine, but realized I just don't have the time or the proper guaging equipment to build an engine like GM could.  Plus, this one has a warranty with it.

My work is also gonna let me borrow the cherry picker we have, so I can do this bad boy at home next weekend!

I'm really excited.  It's also getting some tires.  Check out my post in the tire section for info on that!

I got the long block, not the complete kit.  I already have an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, and my carb is still workin great, plus I'm out of money.  My parents are already helping me a bunch with this, since I spun a bearing and have no transportation.

But it should still be nice and quick.

Also, can anyone tell me more about the cam that's in this engine?

I really want it to have a nice lopey sound to it, since I'm running a fairly unrestricted exhaust, and I want to have a nice sound.  Will this give me that?

The valve lift has .450'' intake and .460'' exhaust lift with hydraulic flat tappets.

Very mild, not much larger than stock. At idle you'll have a little put put but nothing that you're lookin for for sound unfortunately

That's too bad.  It's still gonna be a nice engine, I was just hoping for a meaner sound.

I thought about upgrading the cam, but the price would jump quite a bit, and if I did it myself, it would void my warranty with GM.  Can't do that.

If you want more lift, just put some Ratio Rockers on there. I got 1.6s on mine. That would probably bring your lift up to 490ish. New Rocker sets like that aren't that expensive either and you would be upgrading to Rollers most likely.

If the valve lift is .450/.460 with a 1.5 rocker ratio then your lobe lift is .300/.307

The duration on the cam is 222°

If you went with a 1.6 ratio the valve lift would be .480/.491

Most cams with that much lift have a duration around 290° which you will not have.

So changing the rocker ratio will just essentially give you worse fuel mileage. Just leave your cam alone then and when the warranty is up or close to it do some tweakin :smokin

*edit forgot decimal point
