winshield wipers and fuel guage problems
« on: July 22, 2007, 08:47:52 pm »
last saturday my winshield wipers would not work at all, however today they will not stop working. even when the switch is in the off position they still keep going. i had to uplug some of the electricals so that they wouldnt work. What could be the problem? also i filled my tank and the needle on the guage would not go pass the 1/4 tank line. Any idea whats wrong??

Your truck has been possessed by the devil.

Your wiper motor is probably bad. the motor is still ok but the integrated circuitry went bye bye.

As far as the gas gauge, tap on the gauge and see if the needle jumps

I agree with the possesed theory.
Take a look under the hood on the firewall where the wiper motor is.

Is there a little plastic cover that covers where the wire plug plugs in?  Is this loose.

This plastic part keeps the gears, sprockets, lever, etc... intact.  If it was loose or off, the "gear catcher" for lack of better term slides out and doesn't stop the wiper motor.   If the plastic cover becomes brittle or cracked, the wipers can always be on no matter whether the switch is on or not.

The fuel guage and wiper problems are not related.   Unless, the fore-mentioned theory is correct ::)

Keep the key half on and plug the wires back in the wiper motor....the wipers will continuously be on....push in on the plastic cover or electrical connection...pushing in towards the firewall---see if the wipers then go off...ensure your wiper switch is turned to the off position. f

I had a cracked plastic cover once and while trying to fix it, it broke.  The plug and lever and stuff slipped out a little and the wipers remained on when the key was on.   At first I used the good ole remedy for everything...duct tape..to tape the inards in. That worked until the tape got hot under the hood, about 10 miles, then slipped off and wipers came on again.  A tiny bunji cord works really well to hold the stuff in.  ;D

the cover that covers where the wires plug in is a little loose but i dont see why all of a sudden they would start acting like that. I knew the wipers and guage werent related i just decided to put in them in the same topic to make it easier. any suggestions on what i should do to fix any of these problems. im only 17 and just bought this truck so im kinda learning as i go.

replace the motor.

Pull the wire off of the fuel tank sending unit and turn the key on. Observe the gauge. Ground the wire and observe the gauge.

Where and how would i get to those wires? today i tried what SgtDel said to do about the wipers. the plastic cover was loose but when i pushed it in the windshield wipers kept going and water started shooting at the windsheild. i found this really wierd because i couldnt get those to work since i bought the truck and all of a sudden they work i just cant control them. its like my truck has a mind of its own. Any ideas what i should do?  ???
