rocker panels/cab corners

what do you guys think about using filler to patch the rockers and cab corners.  there are just a few small holes in them.  what if i paint the back of them and then patch them and finally prime them?

Fine if you want it to last a year or so. Otherwise weld in new metal.

If you paint them first then put filler on / in them they probably wont last three months. Filler is designed to stick to bare metal that had been ground to create a mechanical bond. If you sand blast them and use short strand fiber glass filler you could get a year or maybe a little more from them. I wouldn't waste money on expensive primers / paint etc. if you go this route. They are not going to slow the rust down as it will be buried under the filler.

If you do just a filler patch and paint, make sure to remove all of the rust that the filler and paint will sit on. Whether it's surface rust or total rot, grind it down to fresh metal and then go from there.
