Newbie help???

I have a Gmc 3/4 ton HIght sierra and i was wondering on the passanger side exaust manifold there is a small valve or switch. What is that for??

Can you  post a pic of exactly which part you mean? There's a big difference between a switch and a valve. Basically here are some of the things you might find on your exhaust manifold:

Heat riser
Stove Pipe
O2 sensor
AIR components

and this ring around my drive shaft were does it go or can i cut it off??

I'm not seeing a switch in that picture although I am getting a headache trying to figure it out 

Are you talking about the heat riser valve? The lever between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe.

That bushing goes inside your slip yoke.

I agree, I can't tell from the pic.  It is probably the heat riser though as VILE indicated...

Ya it must be the heat valve. Thanx for the help. Do you have a pic of where the bushing goes because i have no idea. thank you

It looks like the dust seal that should be inside the dust cover on the end of the yoke. Prevents dust from entering the splines of the yoke. Try removing the cover (should un-screw from the yoke) it will have very fine threads. Someone could have removed the yoke and not known where to place the seal. The seal will be a felt type but over the years they get kinda hard with all the crap that builds up on them.

If that is what it is, you will have to un-spline the yoke from the shaft, remove the cover and place the seal inside the cover. Then make sure to keep your d/shaft in time and reinstall.

The first photo is the heat riser valve.  If you look at the photo up-side down you can tell what it is.

That ring on your driveshaft is part of the carrier bearing/2 piece driveshaft assembly.

Yep, but where does it go? I just replaced carrier bearing about a month ago. The box had one of these in it, but nothing like it was installed on my truck, so I left it off.

There's a cup on the front part of the rear shaft. You should be able to remove it with a good pair of pliers. The seal goes inside there. Then retighten, grease, and reinstall.
