motor swap
« on: November 29, 2007, 02:54:30 pm »
Hey guys, i'm pretty new to the forum and our trucks.  I just picked up a 73 shortbed and want to swap to an injected motor. I have access to all sorts of 350's. Which years would be easiest to swap over from my carbed motor?

Are you talking about the whole system? EFI included?  That is kind of a loaded questions as it depends on what you mean by easiest.  Any 87-99 Vortec will bolt up, but you need the ECM, harness, EFI fuel lines fuel pump, etc.

Have you looked at these threads:

If you plan on upgrading to tpi, everything changes. You also have to install an ecm, a different fuel delivery system, electronic transmission, different gauges, and a new exhaust. Lots of work there.

You don't need an electronic trans, you can use any trans you want, you can keep the current gauges also, Unless you are swapping to an LT1 you can use the stock manifolds too.

Yes you can do that.  Pull the whole harness out any you will basically be updating the wiring on the truck at the same time.
