also it has hard time starting when cold and runs real rough at first

Did you check for vacuum leaks? Cup your hand over the top of the carb as to restrict the air flow and see what happens.... Don't block it off totally (good way to break a ring)

I covered it as much as possible and still didnt die. should i be able to squeese the vaccum line for the transmission?

man, the SAME thing happened with my '88 Mustang GT.  i was baffled as to why the idle was really high/erratic and it ran like crap...i had tried most everything, couldn't find a vac. leak...one day i was screwin around and decided to cover the TB to kill it...it sucked in the cardboard (just grabbed a piece to cover the TB) tight to it and KEPT RUNNING!  i cracked up.  then i went and got intake gaskets and all was well after that...

hmm. i covered it with both my hands as much as i could it started to stumble but didnt die. but i cant find any leaks around the intake.

well, if you covered the carb and it still had enough air to keep running, where do you think it's getting it from?  lol, there IS a leak, and a pretty good one if it's enough to keep it running.  it is most likely at the end of the intake where you can't really spray...you need intake gaskets...

Mist down your wires/distributor cap with some water and see if it runs worse.
