I have some questions.....

About sound deadening materials.
I have an 81 GMC and don't want a lot of wind and road noise when I drive it down the interstate to work once I get it on the road. I did a little research and found a few informative articles on sound deadening. Can't really spend a lot of money (mainly cause I'm a cheapskate) on this little portion of the project. One of the articles I found said that "Peel-n-Seal" was a lesser expensive alternative than Dynamat and found some at Lowes very reasonably priced. Main questioons are...
"Will it get the job done",
"How bad is the smell in the sumer",
"can I put on multiple layers"
Im always open to suggestions as well.
Thanks for your input.

1st I would make sure you have no air leaks around your vent windows or all you're going to hear is noise. Whistling and such. I've used home carpet padding and had good luck with it. Never used peel n seal so I can't offer you any suggestions there.

My '75 had this gasket. The catalog

says it is a '79-'81 feature, but I know my '75's door was stock.

I do plan to replace all gaskets and such around the doors and vent windows.
Had not thought of carpet padding but may try it. Someone on another forum suggested the "Herculiner", can anyone offer any experience with that.? Good, bad, or indifferent.?
Thanks for all the help guys...Please keep it coming.

The roofing valley roll is thick and has one side that is sticky. Easy to cut and definately works.

herculiner is rather expensive (i think it was about $30 per can when i did my inner fenders). i think you would use alot and maybe have to layer it to get the quiet you want. it doesn't go on very thick. i put on 2 layers and used about 3 of the quart sized cans on both in and out of my inner fenders.

I was actually looking at something such as the roofing vally roll or some sort of thick flashing at Lowes the other night ant the guy said it might be overkill....I just kinda had to grinn and said thanks...
But that is basicly the answer I was looking for.

In my experience from smelling cars that used peel n seal (roofing valley roll), when it gets hot, you can smell it..IMO, if it can be smelled at all, its too strong. I would suggest you buy a gallon of edead v3 online somwhere, and use carpet padding over that..Herculiner is not thick enough to adequately reduce noise with less than 5-10 good heavy coats, which would add up to be about 3-4 gallons @ $75 a gallon...Edead v3 was like $40 a gallon the last time I bought some on ebay. Shipping was $20 though..
