Transmission problem help

I have a 86 SWB 4.3 v6, with a th375. I just had the transmission rebuilt by a well respected guy and the 1st tiem we ran it it didnt leak then it started leaking very slowly out of the pan . Well today we pulled the pan off to replace the cork gasket with a rubber one. We noticed that the filter is hanging down quite a ways on the bolt and the bolt seems tight but it also is pushing on the pan(so much so that its made a dent in the pan where it was located. I need to know is that normal? And does anybody have suggestions as far as bolt size? I havent tried to torque down any harder for fear of more damage? Any help is very appreciated?

The filter has a pipe with 2 o-rings and then it just hangs on that bolt loose like that. The bolt shouldn't hit the pan however. Did you once have a deep pan and now a shallow pan?

See I dont really know. I thought it was the same pan off of my transmission. This guy though i ended up giving him 3 transmissions,(just for multiple core charges) that I had laying around(a 4l60e, a th350, and a th400). So I mean maybe he put the wrong bolt in it? Is that the most likely cause of this problem?

Not if it had a deep pan and he put a shallow pan on it.

Naw its def. the deep pan. The bolt is just barely to long. i mean like 1/8 of an inch at most. What would be tghe worst case scenario of putting a short pan bolt in it anyways though?

Just get a new bolt or a new deeper pan.

Just my .02, but if he knows what he is doing why isn't he trying some fixes/
 What about cutting some off the bolt?

...or dimple the pan a little if it is barely touching.
