Flat Tires and Portable compressors

I went out to my truck tonite at work and had a flat tire. One of my work buddies had a 12 volt compressor and in 15 minutes the tire was filled, but we changed it anyway because it had a nail in it.  I got to thinking about that air compressor and wondered if anybody has a HD one they recommend. (The elect. cord was almost too short but it made it to the back tire. 8ft long or so.. ) Thanks.

I have nothing to compare but I've had a Campbell Hausfeld portable compresser that I bought at walmart about 8 years ago and it still works great, it saved my butt a couple times too.

Do not buy the Craftsman unit from Sears. I went through 3 of them before giving up. Fortunately two were under warranty. When the last one died a premature death, I quit.

Last year I bought a jump pavk from Sams Club. It has a built in compressor so you don't have to worry about the cord. I have yet to need it to air up a tire that was totally flat, but it works great on slow leaks, pool floats, etc.

i would like to second the notion of not buying the craftsman model---to many leaks for me.

i am also in the market for a decent small compressor, so please keep the suggestions coming.

No I'm not kidding. Fix a flat isn't a repair, it's to inflate your tire so you can get off the road in an emergency. If the tire is damaged you're going to have to dismount it anyway. I keep a cig lighter powered compressor in my Jeep but if you're running around without a spare, carry a can of fix a flat.

My point exactly. That stuff leaves a nasty mess iside your tire.

My Lumina van has no spare. I hate fix-a-flat but I keep a can in the van just in case. I also keep in it a 12 volt compressor. Some no name brand I picked up at a yard sale. I have never needed it on the road, but have used it when moving parts trucks around the back 40.

I'm more worried about getting my butt home then having a little liquid in my tire that I can deal with later. Fix a flat works very well much better than air that's going to leak right back out if there's a puncture

i hate to say it but so many people come in and say- well i put a can of fix a flat in it and it still didnt stop leaking. it seems like it doesnt work as well as its cracked up to be
this is what i guy shouldd cary with him for nails and other holes in your tires..

OK let's be clear here. Fix a flat is not a repair! I am not implying it is in any way shape or form an acceptable repair. It's for emergency use to get your rear end home or to a repair facility in the event of a flat. Every tire I fix get's a radial patch once it gets to the shop or it gets replaced.

If you use that "stitching" stuff over here on road tyres its illegal, You can use it on aggricultural stuff tho
