Going from "roll up" to power windows
« on: June 09, 2008, 09:35:45 am »
I just picked up a set of mint doors from a friend for $50 they are electric though. The motors and wiring are intact with the doors, what am I looking at parts wise to make the swap?

Thanks

As far as the doors go, you can just bolt them up.  The wiring has to pass through the door frame so you are going to have to drill a hole and route the harness into the cab.  Did you get the harness that goes into the cab?

Sadly no, he junked the truck a while back and had these laying around. I have no clue whats' what on electric windows, only had the manuals til now...even my 01 Silvy has manuals..lol

Something new to learn I guess, I do know where an 85 "power" cab is sitting with all wiring intact, might just have to go look into it.

Thanks

There is a wire harness that plugs into the face of the fuse box, & runs out to both doors. Take note of where the holes are in the door jamb. Then when you get your doors off if you look real close you will see where it has little a dimple to drill your pilot hole for your hole saw. and two little dimples above and below to drill for your screws.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

I have one question for you...Why?

I hate power windows...except the power windows on my '63 riviera..Those are neat cause you can roll the windows up and down without turning the key on..that and its a 2 door car with 4 power windows..

power windows are nice in that you can open the passenger side from the drivers door and if they work correctly are a nice option. I have a set to put back in my blue truck but haven't had time but I will!

I guess I can see the passenger side, there have been a few times where that would have been handy..but I'd rather keep the drivers side manual..but thats probably just me..
