Transfer Case
« on: June 21, 2008, 12:28:34 am »
I've got a 1975 GMC K15 short bed 4x4.   How can I tell if I have an NP203 or an NP205 transfer case?

What's your shift pattern? Look on the back of the transfer case for a tag. Is there an aluminum extension housing or is it all cast iron?

Is the transfer case alum or cast iron?

2hi 4hi n 4low.  that's the shift pattern, might be on the TC shifter knob.  The link Blast gave you helped me identify mine.

i looked at the tag again i think that it might be a 208. cleaned it with some brake clean and it looks more like an 8.
Blazin, you said the 208's are a downgrade. what is the difference and why are they worse.

They're not a gear drive unit but for regular street and offroad use they're great. If you are a serious offroader not so good.
