350-or 400 Transmission
« on: July 02, 2008, 04:41:52 pm »
ok I know , I got the pan pics and it looks like a 350 .In the drivers side it has 3 lumps like an egg cut from end to end and 3 halves were embedded in the side of the trannie 1 above the others 3 in a row...I have another one here and it doesnt have them on it.. plus it is all one piece tailshaft is part of the case ,no tailshaft..does it matter if you use a torque convertor from a 700R4 or a 350 .I put one on and tried it and the truck worked anyway ,They all look the same to me haha..Is there anyway to tell which is which..Bruce

What the lumps on the side meant, if  and I have 6Torque converters here and 4 are off 700r4's and 2 are off the 350s ,cant tell the difference between the torque convertors .Will either one work with the 350 transmission.. Thats about it , i fI cant figure which is which Ill keep tryin them till one doesnt work and then  back to the last one It must be the 350 one , this could take all summer haha Bruce

The TH350 is a non lockup unit. The 700R4 has a lockup piston clutch inside the torque converter.

ok I have 6 torque converters , 2 are off th350s and 4 are off 700r4s , I looked at them foir 2 hrs and happenned o notice there are 2 differences . the 2 th350s is installed with 3 nuts and bolts , the 700r4s are installed with the bolts screw right into the torque converters.. the other differenceis where the seams are th350 has one near the outside 1 , that section goes over the top and down the back the 700r4s have a raised section too but then it goes from the raised portion to the back its a longer run from the seam....Bruce pretty hard to see it unless you have the 2 together..Thanks Bruce..... Ill start puttin the motor in now Yahoo!!

haah i sated a 83 c-10 just to moreo r less to make it look nice not a show car , It had an old straight 6 in it , motor was shot so i found a 350 out of an 85 put it together with a 700r4 tork converter , surprisingly it worked but seemed to slip a bit and i knew the trannie so it was good , then i put some lucas engine builder ot whatever it is and it changed the color of the oil but was close to what water looks like in the oil , I wasnt sure so i yanked it and am puttin a 010 out of a 77 pu in it with a th 350 I had here .Ive added spotless bumpers on it for 40 dollars to now u know my budget haha it needs a seat and dash pad , Prob get a newdash pad beel lookinat alot of used ones and they were all bad same with the seat, but I have a welder and a couple Cadilac buckets ill put in it .hav a guy that will do the body work and paint it for My old 84 estate wagon no motor or trannie ,thats the 350 out of the wagon , neede some valve seals bit of a puff on startup .I had the inspector drop in and told me to cleanup the yard haha been on the todo list but its done .still have half the roof o shingle this year , did the back last year.next year Ill do the garage..The young fellow graduated last week and the old woman left haha anyway u shouldnt have asked hehe.. yea, treny, your posts are more than mildly confusing...i had to read that quite a few times just to take it all in.  a period or a comma goes a long way...
