Which series 10 bolt?????
« on: August 10, 2008, 09:09:32 pm »
I've been looking at slapping a posi unit in my truck, and probably even bumping up to a 3.73 or 3.90 gear.  Which series carrier?  I've seen like 2, 3, and 4 series!  Gahh!  ANd How many splines?  It's a factory '82 8.5 10 bolt.

I believe that you're loking for a 3 series with 28 splines. I have an 81 10 blt and that's what it calls for.

It should be a 28 spline.

The 8.5 has a pretty large carrier run. I believe it's 2.73 up to 3.73 is the same...3 series. Some companies make the "thick" ring gear in some ratios to use with the lower number carrier also. Lorne

Just what I needed, looks like a series 3 goes from 2.73-4.56.  So I'll be doing that here soon too!
