military k5 blazer
« on: November 06, 2008, 08:25:02 pm »
Going tomorrow after work for a road trip to look at a military k5 1984 chevy blazer.  I am certain I will end up buying it.  Just retired from service.  If I do, I will post up pics when I get back.

gas or diesel??? I've wanted one or a pickup from a local base for sometime, but never had the $5-10,000 to get one.....  Good Luck with your purchase, they are durable rigs, especially the diesel versions....

i think all the CUCV's are diesel, i might be wrong.  i want to buy one of the Dodge aircraft tugs myself, that would make an awesome trail rig with a 4x4 conversion.

Nope not all of them were, but also depends on which branch/base ordered it....  I know locally, Fort Lewis had diesels, and some of their gas versions also could use Propane/CNG....  Machord Airforce based usually had gas versions, Fairchild had the same as Fort Lewis, with Whidbey & Bremerton having Gas & a few diesels(couldn't tell you about Everett's Naval base, but I have heard possible gas & diesels)....

I was supposed to get 2 of these Blazers when I converted the fire departments trucks from 24V to 12V. Once I was done they gave the Blazers to someone else.  >:(

Look for DRMO sales on base thats where your best bet would be at a Army base

I bought it, just got home tonight with it.  Have to get some pictures in the daylight tomorrow.  It's diesel, 400 tranny, 3/4 ton rated t case, posi rear end and 3/4 ton springs.  It runs great too.

You know I couldn't tell you if they still do, as for a while when I was growing up, the Local Bases stopped Selling Surplus Equiptment and Vehicles to the General Public (That was a few years after the end of Desert Storm).....

LOL, the blazer is the only thing you can't see in those photos.  Must be the camo.
