I also just read the whole thread the truck looks unbelievable I am not usually a fan of the slammed and chopped look but wow, I wish I had half the skill and courage to just jump into things. I love the look of that tailgate. I agree with you a light blue would suit this truck.

I personally would've skinned the roof off a few inches from the edges, and not have to weld through the center of the roof.

Unfortunately I completely agree with this. Over the years I've done &/seen done a few things like that & was able to closely watch the effects.
 The welding/heavy fillerwork out in the middle of a large panel like that will most likely show up after a few hot days &/or cool, damp nights. The idea of having the weld around the edges (even in 2"3" or so) doesn't make the "hard" & "soft" variations like the overlap/weld in the + shape. Just like when the dew starts setting & you see the understructure of a hood or trunk, this + (usually just in one spot or Two) will show up & be the spot that will either stay or sink.
 The nicest chop job I've personally got to see over time was an early S-10 that a friend did & used one of our roofs as the new skin. The welding was all around the edges & never changed in the hot/cold/damp cycles. 
 Hate to be the barer of bad news, but that is my findings after doing & seeing some "not the way we wanted them to turn out"...think patching a couple sunroof holes, big Chrismas tree on the little station wagon roof, a chopped top or Two, etc. etc. are some of the examples. The "correct" time & materials were used, but the results were less than perfect.

Thanks for the heads up, after a couple weeks of trying to get the roof lined out how I wanted it I redid the whole thing. I did as was suggested and cut the center out about 2" from the edge all the way around and welded in a single piece. Should have done that from the start because it was much easier.

Small update today, did a little mud work on passenger door and cut down the frame on the wing window so that it would fit again.

It all cam from Suicide Doors. The rear is their triangulated 4-link kit.
