« on: May 25, 2009, 08:38:42 pm »
Ok, I don't know very much.. make that anything about suspension setups in these trucks. I want to slam my '83 stepside on the ground but i have no idea where to start. im assuming i'll need to bag it, put in a shorter rear end and what not. but if anyone could give me detailed instrucions or steps on how they did this or just how to do it, it would be greatly appreciated! thanks alot

Well if you want it draggin on the ground I would bag it so you can actually drive it. You'll have to do some serious hacking though.

It really depends on exactly how low you want to go. Keep in mind the A-arms will touch the ground before the frame or rockers do.

I suggest you go with a static drop to get started, and educate yourself on air suspension to determine if it's what you really want.

Here's an 83 C-10 stepside (same year/body style as my truck) and this is the exact height I want my truck. I know my truck was lowered slightly by the previous owner but I'm not sure how much.

Dropmember is the fastest route to getting one like pictured above.
This truck has a Porterbuilt setup in it:

So would I still have to bag it to get it as low as the truck you posted above?

Yeah i believe you would have to to get it that low.A regular suspension wont get you that low I.E leaf springs and coils.

thanks

Can I get my truck any lower than it already is without bagging it?

No you don't, as far as I know you can have Nathan setup the Dropmember for springs, you can call Porterbuilt to verify.
Bags will add adjustability.
