Has anyone replaced the side of a bed?  I need to replace the entire side of my bed and i want to know how hard it will be knowing that there is welding involved..

Can the side of a shortbed 79 fit and swap with a shortbed of an 85?

Please help...

There are spot welds down the bed floor to the inner bedside.  Hard depends on you experience, I would say it would be harder than say removing a rusty rocker.

Which side?  Technically it should work.

If it is the side without the filler bulge is should work fine.

just took my passenger bedside off to replace the front panel and there were no welds. It took about two hours to take off the whole passenger side, clean and repaint where everything bolts together and replace the front panel and put the bedside back on. it was my first time doing this and the bed was on a lift not on the truck. pretty easy and straight forward job. hope this helps. also only needed a
phillips screw driver and 1/2 and 9/16 sockets on an air ratchet

The only welds should be the rear bed post where tailgate shuts. It has two spot welds at the base of it to the floor. Other than that the whole side unbolts from the floor, and front panel.

Nevermind...Its been a long day, was thrown off by the welding on part. Am i wrong that if your replacing an entire bedside there is no welds. mine just unbolted.

There should be two short welds right at the base of the rear post where it meets the floor just inside the gate.

maybe mine has been off/replaced before and noone welded it back up. looked to have factory seam sealer every where.

Maybe it was 1 of my welds and it just didn't hold. I'm still in the learning stages with my mig.
