oh you can't do it anyway she always has to be the one to get under and get dirty. i love it haha. has no issues kicking off her heels and ripping off mufflers on the way to dinner parties either..

don't get me started on the kitchen either. half the stuff she makes for dinner i've never heard of, but i have no compaints.. and for being 20 yrs old, that's a miracle in itself..

lol thank you sir. now if i could get her to swap the ac, i'd invest in an engagement ring... even though she topped me on that last year when she got the ring and popped the question... it wasn't even a faggy girly thing it was pretty nice...

ok today was a journey. due to a longer story my old butt is living at home. so during this transplant of parts, my jerkoff stepfather towed both my trucks behind the house outta site, cause quite honestly he had no intention on doing the work he made a deal on. so now i have some airbrush and paint work to repossess.

anyway, the 79 has that olds 260 in it, and that still had to come out. the 80 has the 350 so called crate motor, that had to come out. the frame in the 80 was twisted pretty far back under the truck and kinda trapped the motor in but the guys got it free.

two 30 packs of beer, and a stack of pizzas. mike taylor from the psychobuells (for any of you that follow motorcycle stunting) came up with two other riders allan and dustin from next level crew and they busted it out.

the 80 was pretty bad, and a huge pain to get back to the garage, it pretty much has no steering. we towed it very slowly, stopping everytime the steering would pop, bfh it back into place, coast a little further. it finally gave way and we couldn't rig it anymore so it had to be steered with two guys on either side pushing the tires to steer it as people in the back pushed it thru the gravel.

i did get dirty, while they were pulling the motor in the 80 i dove into my engine bay wth a lot of gunk remover and some various scrapers and wire brushes to get the loose rust and grease out. i need a pressure washer. BAD. tomoorow we're going to attempt to take all the wiring crap from the ac out and swap it over, even though i'm afraid of wiring cause i tend to just ruin everything with a wire. is there a way to get everything thru the firewall WITHOUT cuting it? or is cutting it and using connectors to put it back the easiest way to go? help asap!! other than that, i think on my day off and pay day, we might just pull off the front end so i can clean and paint the firewall while the engine's out.

i pretty much just was the gopher, asking a ton of questions, getting in the way, and fetching tools as they were needed.

here's pics, they're thumbnails, so just click to see em full size

today's mess.

i figured just in cause, go back over everything, make sure wiring, plugs, etc are all out in cause there's something in the other cab that doesn't have i may need. so what i've noticed is that the firewall is drastically different. before i hack a hole in there to fit the evaporator and whatnot, i'm gonna make sure all the duct work is in place and all lines up before i scrap the rest. figure i can use the ac cab to make a template outta cardboard shouldn't be that hard.

as we got the rest of the wiring and whatnot outta the wrecked cab, it started stoerming AGAIN. so i threw a cover over my 79 and headed into the garage to start tearing stuff off the engine to clean up. there's so much grease caked up on there it was easier to go with a scraper first, then gunk it and scrub off with a wire brush.

the headers are sorta rusty, they were hit too, then hit with some header primer and set aside. i washed out and blew out all the ac vents and set them to the side in the garage til later this week when i get another day off. they're calling for storms constantly so it's screwing up my momentum.

but here we go. if anyone has anything to say about the differene in the firewalls, and anything they might know off hand about clearance issues, let me know. looks like my inner fender is way to close to the firewall to fit teh evaporator housing... and if anyone ahs one of those, the fiberglass case on this is busted i need a new one. and a condenser.

POR 15 has a brush on manifold restoration paint that works allot better than any spray bomb I have ever used. Othe rhtan that it5 loks like your ankle deep head first! ;D

i'm doing this with a manual, and a camera.  i have no clue what i'm doing. i stripped the other cab, but i'm taking now the engine stuff apart piece by piece and cleaning it. i might even go get a small parts washer to aid caues the grease is just caked up a half inch thick. i hit it even with a scraper first, THEN put gunk on, then tried to clean it. lots of work

lots of work

You have no idea, it only gets better :)

Wait until you start putting it all back together, and you go to bolt on one of your perfectly functional old parts, and compared to the new stuff looks awful, and then start replacing or cleaning stuff for no better reason then it just looks bad.

Do yourself a favor and establish your goals ahead of time. And stick to it, until finished, then plan your next goals. If you want a show truck, fine. Start planning now what it will take.

The important thing is to work torwards your goal and don't waiver, otherwise you'll never finish.

i'm cleaning it all. anything that i took off is getting cleaned. so when it comes to putting stuff into the other cab, there's not much left on the firewall as you can see from the pics. so everythings getting cleaned. i was getting yelled at last night when my stepdad was like, you won't even SEE that. well, oh well, i'm not doing things halfway and just slapping it together. i got some time before someone has the time to help me put it back in, so starting with the engine bay, i want it cleaned as best as possible, then  i'm going to take off the front clip and spray the firewall before i bolt all of this up. as long as there's no rust thru like the other cab, then i gotta have a friend come weld new metal in then paint. so i'm keepin my fingers crossed.

no clue how photobucket moved or deleted a bunch of my project pics but anyway...

after using various degreasers that didn't cut thru enuff, i tried some cheap easy off knock off brand from wal mart. i didn't even get half thru the can, it cut the grease down in like 5 minutes.

it says not to use on chrome, but if you use it and get it off quickly it works just fine and doesn't dull the finish. which i want satin finish anway but here's a shot of the mess i'm in, and a shot of the valve cover to give you an idea.

If you want to get grease off and don't care about the finish of the part afterwards.  Easyoff is your friend...
